Today I visited an acquaintance who had just finished with the repair of the apartment in Japanese style. Japanese design is not always appropriate for our way of life, and to live in such interior must be aware of the philosophy of the Japanese.
Compromise between East and West
Interior in a Japanese house is very minimalist . The colors are mostly autumn with minimum decorations and very little furniture. Low tables , no chairs or soft and comfortable cushions on the sofas … uh , did I mention that the beds do not use ? The traditional Japanese style does not allow anything but a mattress and blanket . Sounds brutal and spartan , but everything has a logical explanation and philosophy.
We are accustomed to comfort , sofas us are getting softer and bulkier , our chairs are getting bigger everything is in total conflict with their philosophy . It seems that you can not sleep and live in an empty house with bed and blanket , so we can make some sort of compromise that is ripe and still in their style. No need to redekorirate entire house , just a few special decorations.
Here’s a brief history of how in a short time and a small budget we were able to ” push it ” east in a modest apartment .

Wallpaper and light
3 weeks ago when I decided to help my friend with the furniture of his apartment in the Japanese style , after a short conversation with him was clear that there is no way to absolutely 100% to recreate Japanese interior . So we decided to use a compromise .
We started with a selection of wallpaper – two or three colors with a smooth texture. For the living room we chose pure white wallpaper with very little presence of light blue vertical lines . The living room is not large , so the white color will create the illusion of space , while the blue lines will make boring walls a little interesting .
For dining picked wallpapers with interesting ornaments floral . And since experimented pasted part of the wallpaper in the form of a square and they toured with black pictorial profile , thus forming a huge picture. And as we had on hand several ikebana , they instantly become decoration on the wall .
The third type of wallpaper is special rice paper , which is typical of the Japanese. They become part of the decor in the bedroom. Interestingly in these wallpapers that absorb light in a special way that makes you feel very comfortable.

Furniture
Low wooden table in black wenge, took the place of the old traditional dining-room table . Tabletop from there were beautiful views in typical oriental style, which is actually the main focus of this room. Around the table line up a few cushions, which are almost the same color as the leaves fall outside. For the living room because I could not do it without the bed, we chose a small comfortable sofa with wooden legs in dark wenge color .
Several low tables serve as backdrops while stools for guests. In the living room instead of the old flooring, bamboo carpet put in weave flax – lately is widespread in textile shops . Connection with the modern role played small glass TV stand and stand behind the wall hung a picture with Japanese motifs – characters.
Lighting was decided by the purchase of small textile floor lamps .
Bedroom
Bed itself ordered it as a low platform that is very close to the ground. In positioned mattress and cover hardly notice that there is a platform . Interesting dresser with hidden drawers without handles plays back bedroom . On the walls , even the wallpaper hung paintings in the style again .

For several years, many people are crazy about the Japanese-style interior, by trying to recreate them completely even at the cost of comfort.
I think the idea is not to try to copy someone or something, but we can try to create a nice combination of the two cultures, which live smoothly.
